The Silhouette software is not currently compatible with Macintosh computers. However, the Silhouette hardware can be connected to a Mac and will cut designs from Adobe® Illustrator® software (not included). An Illustrator plugin is required and should be available on our website soon. How technically savvy do you have to be to use the Silhouette? The Silhouette is easy to install, navigate and use. And of course it's backed by friendly customer support in case you need it! Once you're comfortable with the software, you may find yourself exploring the advanced features of digital craft cutting more than you ever thought possible! Is the Silhouette compatible with other brands of electronic cutters? The Silhouette is not compatible with other brands of stand-alone electronic template cutters. The Silhouette software is designed for use with the Silhouette hardware. Silhouette software is required to cut all QuicKutz digital designs. QuicKutz digital designs are not compatible with software created by other manufacturers. Is the Silhouette compatible with Windows Vista? The Silhouette is Vista compatible. We have the Vista compatible software program available from the QuicKutz website. If you have not done so already, you will not have to install the original software first. You may simply visit the link above to download the Vista compatible version. If you are looking for the driver for Vista only, you may also download it from our website here: Silhouette Vista Driver However, if you are a new user, please note that your Silhouette installation CD will likely be version 2.0, which is Vista compatible and does include the Vista driver. No updates or downloads are necessary at this time.

Digital Designs

How often does QuicKutz you release new downloadable Digital Designs? QuicKutz will release new digital designs for the Silhouette on the 1st and 15th of every month. Where can I see a list of the available Digital Designs for download? Aside from the 50 images that are included with the Silhouette software, you may view images of what is available for additional download on the Silhouette website.  www.silhouettemachine.com Once I buy QuicKutz digital designs, can I share them with other Silhouette owners? QuicKutz Silhouette digital designs, once downloaded, are encrypted and can not be shared from computer to computer. Can I use the dies for my Squeeze or Revolution in the Silhouette? No. The Silhouette Digital Craft Cutter will only cut designs imported or created in the software.

What are the requirements for using the Silhouette software? Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista      Internet connection     (to browse and download additional shapes) What can I create and cut using the Silhouette software? Transform and cut out any of the following types of designs and images from 1/4 inches (0.6cm) to 8 inches (30cm) tall and up to 39 inches (99cm) long! Results may vary depending on intricacy of design and thickness of material being cut. Silhouette Digital Designs Created, tested and approved by QuicKutz cutting experts! 50 shapes, tags, welded word designs and 3D templates are included with the Silhouette. Browse and download additional digital designs 24 hours a day through the Silhouette software. New digital designs will be released twice a month! TrueType Fonts Most fonts on your computer are TrueType fonts with a .ttf extension. Additional TrueType fonts can be purchased or downloaded (sometimes for free) from several sources online and in craft stores. When cut directly through the Text function within the Silhouette, scripted fonts will cut as individual letters and not one piece. Word welding cannot be performed within the Silhouette software at this time, though there are programs available that will allow you to create a welded word and import it into the Silhouette (such as Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw and Inkscape).

The instruction, along with illustrations, are located in the Basic Instruction Guide that came with your Silhouette Digital Craft Cutter. How long does the cutting blade last? Depending on usage and the types of material being cut, a blade will typically last about six months before requiring replacement. Please note that cutting thicker materials will wear down the blade more quickly.  Replacement products can be purchased at Scrapbooks & More!  How long does the cutting mat last? Cutting mats should last for over 100 full 8.5x11 sheets worth of cuts. Be sure to use the correct blade adjustment cap to prevent damage to your cutting mat and the black cutting strip on your tool. See your user's manual for more information about blade adjujstment caps and general cutting tips. How can I easily remove design cut-outs from the sticky cutting mat? We call our QuickStik tool the "Quicker-Poker-Picker-Upper" and it may be just the thing you're looking for! It has a removable, double-sided acrylic tip that is great for removing paper from cutting mats. It also serves to poke letters and shapes from paper, and has a small, tacky tip that is perfect for picking up die cuts of any size or shape. The removable tip also gently pulls letters and shapes away from the sticky tack for perfect placement on your layouts, cards and paper crafts.
